New installation of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (with SP1) that already has Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate with SP1 applied when I started the SQL install:
I'm trying to install all the client-side bits (no SQL Engine or Reporting services) and during install I got an error twice on each of the following. The error said, "Cannot find one or more components. Please reinstall the application." This is absurd since the installer indicated that all prerequisits were met and I was in the middle of the install when they occurred. What's worse is that at the end of the install, everything showed as "Succeeded". This all followed me uninstalling ALL SQL BITS of any version when I couldn't open SSMS 2012 because of the EXACT same error. Googling and searching here for the following packages returns nothing of use. How could I get such an obscure error that even the installer doesn't seem to be aware it occurred? This has so far cost me no less than 15 hours and I don't want to just start all over because I have no reason to think it won't just happen all over again.
I've redownloaded the installation ISO twice now to different drives just to be sure it wasn't a bad download. This is just rediculous! I've also reapplied VS2010SP1 and the isolated shell as well as checked for the "SQL Server Management Studio\11.0_Config" registry entry (it didn't exist).
