SQL Server Management Studio upgrades and patches causes SQL databases to change their recovery model types

Hi all,

Has anyone come across this issue where if you upgrade SQL Server Management Studio using the latest Service Packs and patches the recovery model types of some or all databases change from full to simple? This happens every time when I come upgrade SQL Server Management Studio on our SBS 2011 and 2008 R2 servers and causes SQL backups to fail with BackupAssist as it only supports full or transactional recovery model types and have to change the recovery model type of each database highlighted by BackupAssist from simple to full and to perform a full backup with each SQL backup job before allowing BackupAssist to perform transactional backups of each database afterwards. Also other issues I encounter after upgrading SQL Server Management are that the Readsoft service is prevented from starting and has to be restarted on the server that hosts it even though it says running? ODBC connections created on workstations stop communicating with the servers in which I have to reauthenticate on each workstation for them to communicate with the servers again. Both issues can be very time consuming to resolve and was wondering whether anyone had advice on how to prevent issues like this from happening again when upgrading SQL Server Management Studio and/or whether I can report the issues to Microsoft in order for them to resolve a possible issue with the SQL Server Management Studio installation wizard which may be triggering these obscurities. Your help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

RocknRollTim
