Where is the SQL Server 2008 R2 Installation Media director? This question asks during a 'new installation or add features to an existing installation'. The installation media root directory is not indicated under 'options'. I trying side-by-side installation next to SQL Server 2008 Express Edition.
It appears that C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2008R2 (where 1033_ENU_LP, Resources, and x86 dirs are installed) is the installation media root directory, but is is not a valid folder.
Also tried copying the 1033_ENU_LP, Resources, and x86 dirs from the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2008R2 into a directory that I created in c:\2008R2installationDir, and then running setup.exe, but still do not have an installation media root dir specified under options.
After installing the x64 with all tools excluding the SDK from the SQL Express Edition, I go to Management Studio, log in and get the error when I click under the Instance name- Databases...Have reinstalled many times, removed all directories and registry keys from both HKEYs(regular and Wow6432Node) before rebooting and reinstalling. No VS installed on this computer..put it looks like it installed "MS Visual Studio 2010 Shell (Isolated)-ENU" and "Visual Studio 2010 Prerequisites".....tried working past the error, it just hangs the Studio after it tries to add things...HELP..PLEASE!!!

Hi,
I want to install SQL Server 2008 R2 on Windows 2008 R2 which I have done a dozen times now, but this time the setup hangs after confirming the service account setup. It is a virtualized system on VMWare ESX which did not cause any issues before.
Does anyone know why this might happen?
Thanks
Sven
Summary:
While performing two task simultaneously 1) deleting existing SQL Server 2008 r2 instance 2) Creating SQL Server 2012 Instance. I received wrong message.
Explanation:
I have SQL Server 2012 setup in my server. By mistake I created SQL Server 2008 r2 instance.
Now simultaneously I was performing two task 1) deleting SQL Server 2008 r2 instance 2) Creating SQL Server 2012 Instance.
While creating SQL Server 2012 instance i received popup message "Another SQL Server 2012 setup is running but the running setup was not SQL Server 2012, it was SQL Server 2008 r2.
We are in the process of consolidating several SQL Server on a single SQL Server 2012 failover cluster.
Our initial set up include:
- 1 SQL Server 2005 with a datawarehouse
- 1 SQL Server 2008 running an insurance database
- 1 SQL Server 2008 R2 running an accounting database
- 1 SQL Server 2005 Express running Octopus (Tool to manage technical incidents and service requests )
- 1SQL Server 2008 R2 running a print server database on a print server
As there is continuous development on this database and the development team for the insurance database is a team from a consultant company outside from our site, I was tempted to put this database on a separate instance.
Otherwise, databases are relatively small and there are not that many transactions .
Is it possible to split these databases on multiple instances a on the SQL Server 2012 failover cluster?
Is there a benefit to split these databases on multiple instances?
What are the best practices?

Goal:
Understand better how a DBA use PowerShell in his/here daily work.
Problem:
I really don't understand what specific assignment does a DBA use PowerShell in order to complete task or assignment?
Maybe you have a list of real-based example of PowerShell assignment in relation to DBA.
Hi,
I have just been given a new PC by my IT department so am trying to get all the software I need onto the PC. Since I am now running windows 7 I wanted to try SQL Server 2012, however whenever I go to install it, one of the checks always fails as follows:-
SetupCompatibilityCheck
Checks whether the current version of SQL Server is compatible with a later installed version.
This version is not compatible with a later installed version. For more information, see the compatibility information at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=160850.
All other checks are successful but no matter whether I use the MSDN disc the software is on or the downloaded copy, the software doesn't seem to like my PC. I don't understand how the software can believe there is somethingnewer than SQL Server 2012 on the system. When I run the discovery tool elsewhere in the installer it reports that nothing is installed.
Is anyone able to give me some information on what might be triggering this? I did install Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Studio 2010 on the system prior to this, as well as SQL Server 2008 R2, but I have since removed all of these products again in order to try and identify the cause of this problem. Now with nothing left on the system again, it still reports this same error. Could it be something is left over from those installations that is causing this problem?
Any help would be much appreciated

Paul
Hi!
I have 2 virtual systems with software that works with SQL server, one of then with SQL server 2000 and the other with 2005. Now I want to have only one machine with SQL server 2012 and the each software in an individual virtual machine.
How can I make the change? Can I just export the db from 2000 and 2005 to 2012, test it, and finally connect with the machines?
Thank you!!!
