I have a website with a 2008 R @ database. I am trying to move from that host to another host. The new host has 2012 databases. I have a copy of my 2008 database on my local machine that I restore with back-ups from my production DB.
I am having problems migrating the 2008 DB to the 2012. The host had me download SQL Server Express and its Tools. I have a backup file from my local machine but when I try to use it get an error. If I try to copy the database from the 2008 DB to the 2012, I get an error "

But if I try to restore it ot a blank database on the 2012 I get another error_"

Cannot connect to newly created SQL 2008 R2 instance. Login failed for user...
I'm not a SQL guy, just figuring my way around here...
I just created a new instance on an existing SQL server. The original instance works fine. On
Database Engine Configuration > Account Provisioning
I selected Windows authentication mode and added several users, myself among them.
Tried to log in with one my account and getting:

SQL Server 2008 R2 Express installation Failure
Hello,
We are trying to install MS SQL Server 2008 R2 Express edition and facing following issue:
Initially we tried to install the Version 10.50.4000.0 and this installation runs successfully for many users, but for some user the installation fails for several reasons. The very most reason for failing stated in SQL-Server log-files is
a failure with not sufficient rights. We tried with more administrator rights and did not managed to install the SQL server at the failed PCs.
Then we have downloaded the version 10.50.1600.1 and this version installs very well by most of PCs where it was failed earlier.
Now with few PCs, while trying to install this version (10.50.1600.1), we are getting following error
SQL Server Setup has encountered following error:
Version's parameters must be greater than or equal to zero.
Parameter name: build.
Could you please let us know how to solve this issue.
Thanks in advance...

I have checked rights on the folders and also got the anti-virus (symantec) services stopped on the server. Still no success, can anyone help.
failed installation of SQL Server 2014
After several failed attempts to install SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition as a named instance on a PC, it is time to seek help. Said PC has Windows 7, SP1, 64-bit and already has a default instance of SQL Server (2008 R2 Developer) and a named instance of SQL Server (SQL Express). After each failed install of SQL Server 2014 an uninstall was performed to clean up the parts of 2014 that were installed. Now this PC runs McAfee, which apparently controls Windows Firewall. When the firewall is turned off in McAfee the Windows Firewall screen still says the Windows Firewall is on. I don't see how to turn Windows Firewall off manually on a machine that runs McAfee.
On the latest install attempt, I left the firewall turned on in McAfee and checked the box to allow port 1433 - see screen shot below (in previous install attempts this box was unchecked). This install attempt failed and generated the messages described above.
I am at a loss as to what to try next to get SQL Server 2014 to install. Why isn't it working?
SQL Server 2008 is the worst installation experience ever
Sorry but you guys have really messed up with SQL Server 2008 installation.
I've been using SQL server since 6.5, so I would classify as a fan. We were looking at upgrading from 2005, which I was quite pleased with.
The installation experience is the worst I've ever experienced. I am a computer expert, and I couldn't figure out how to install it properly. Why is it that when I downloaded SQL Server Management Studio Express 2008, it seems as though it wants to install the full database? Why is it when I was asked if I wanted to install a new version of SQL Server 2008 or use a previous install, when I chose previous install, it said that an instance ID was missing, but there was no way to specify anything else? It drove me crazy.
Why are there so many requirements and restrictions for the installation, when all I want to do is install Management Studio? It's intolerable and makes me never want to upgrade to 2008. Why is the process so terrible when Microsoft is supposed to have the best UE people in the business?
You guys did a really terrible job on this one.
upgrade from sqlserver 2008 to sqlserver 2014, can I put software into different drive other than C: ?
Originally my sqlserver 2008 software was installed into E:, but I didn't see any drive selection options available during the upgrade steps, so now my sqlserver 2014 is installed into default C: drive.
If there are any ways to specify different drive ?
Thanks

The current SKU is invalid. When adding second node to SQL 2008 failover Cluster
===========
There will be an ini file in setup. Z\SQLsetup\x86 folder >> DefaultSetup.ini
which contains following entry like
;SQLSERVER2008 Configuration File
[SQLSERVER2008]
PID=”*****-*****-*****-*****-*****”
Just comment out the PID key by semi collen (;) and then copy the key and put that key during the installation. It should be like this
;SQLSERVER2008 Configuration File
[SQLSERVER2008]
;PID=”*****-*****-*****-*****-*****”
copy the PID key *****-*****-*****-*****-***** and paste during the installation.

Failed Authenticode ftimport.dll
Hi have a very simple install of SQL 2012 SP2 - standard edition on Windows server 2008 R2
Service running with "NT AUTHORITY\Network Services"
Intalls with no issues
Seems to be running without issues except for the following error poping up.
DB engine only with the shared connectivity tools and mangement tools
At SQL startup I get this message...
------------
Failed to verify Authenticode signature on DLL 'E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Binn\ftimport.dll'.
------------
No other errors or warning.
I have check the other simular post and nothing fits or works in my case.
1- Can someone tell me what ftimport.dll do in life?
2- What problems can this cause?
3- How can I fix this, I'm guessing it might be something in Windows.
Fixing Windows Management Instrumentation????????
How to remove this error when installing or uninstalling sql server?
How to tell whether a license used to install SQL Server is MSDN license or Volume license?
SQL Server will not start on VMWare (5.1) hosted 2012 (sp1) server.
I built a brand new Standard Server 2012 SP1 virtual machine in a VMWare 5.1 clustered environment. No problems with the server itself. No errors, no issues. I patched to SP1 with all the latest KB's. I start the installation of SQL 2012 Standard. Install goes fine. I set up domain service accounts to run the server and agent on, set them up as administrators on the box. At the end of the installation it can't start the services. SQL Server Agent wont start. SQL Server wont start... I am logged in as a domain admin.
There is NOTHING else installed on this server, not even antivirus.
"Windows could not start the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service on local computer. Error 5: Access is denied."
I found a posting about someone having a similar issue Here. There was something about permissions of the guest in VMWare. The fix for them was "changing all of the sql server services to log on as local system" which is NOT an option for me. I did change permissions on the SQL install folder, and that didn't help.
So I wrapped up the installation....
Tried to start the service and got the above error. Here is the event: (Sanitized for your protection)
