Cannot download CU1 for SQL Server 2014 SP1
What level of domain and forest functionality to I need to cluster W2K12 R2 and SQL2K14 SP1?
I've got two W2K8 R2 SP1 servers, which I'm using as DC's. I also have a Windows Server 2003 DC. I would like to DCPROMO the W2K3 machine out of the environment, but it has come in handy. The DNS service on the W2K8 machines has, on at least one occasion, come to a complete halt, and the W2K3 server has been there as a back stop.
Can I leave it there during the installation? Will W2K12 R2 refuse to cluster with the downlevel computer.
SQL Server Configuration Manager: Connection to target machine could not be made in a timely fashion
I have a SQL Server 2005 box that was moved from a domain environment to a non-domain environment and was never dropped from its original domain before moving over. Subsequently a new domain was created at the data center this SQL Server box now resides in. The machine was dropped from its old domain and joined to the new one.
All the while the service accounts were set to the local admin account. When I tried to start the Configuration Manager I got the message "Connection to target machine could not be made in a timely fashion.". I read some blog entries and tried changing all the service accounts to Local System and the error message still came up.
All of the SQL Server services run fine. It is just this management console that I cannot open. I wasn't with this employer when this box was moved to the data center so I do not know if it worked prior and there isn't anyone here that could give me its history.
Any help would be appreciated.
Can I build a cluster by adding the cluster service, then the SQL instances, then the add other nodes bearing passive instances?
Can I build a cluster by adding the cluster service, then the SQL instances, then add the other nodes and their passive SQL instances?
I would lean to building the cluster first, the add the SQL instances.

upgrade sql server 2008 R2 from evaluation version to licensed using command line
Hi,
Here is the situation:
I want to have a master hard disk of Windows Server and non licensed SQL Server 2008 R2 (evaluation version)
Now I want to mass duplicate the disk to other computer.
On each newly computer i need now to insert product key to upgrade the SQL Server from evaluation version to licensed.
The problem is that I need to get in to the setup program of the SQL Server in each new computer.
I am looking for a command line tool to be used in RunOnce that will allow me to insert the product key and to upgrade the SQL server from evaluation version to licenced version.
Any ideas?
thans,
Avi
Can we install PreRequisites(Ex: SQL Server 2014) Silently using product Setup?
Hi,
I am using visual studio 2012 and did product setup. For my Product I need framework 4.5 and Sql Server 2014 as prerequisites.
I added above mentioned prerequisites using redistributables. When I click on install, framework installed directly and problem is with sql server 2014 installation. I need to install SQL server silently without asking for user to click on next and add parameters.I need exactly like how we install through command prompt silently.
Is this possible with setup and deployment in visual studio 2012?
If yes How?
Thanks In Advance

Upgrade Advisor - Method not found
Hello,
I'm shortly to be upgrading a SQL Server 2005 instance to SQL Server 2008 R2 on a Windows 2003 R2 box. Whilst following suggested practice I ran the Upgrade Advisor and got the following issue reported "
Method not found: 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1<Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlParser.Parser.Error> Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlParser.SqlCodeDom.SqlCodeObject.get_Errors()'. |
". This was for many commands such as DROPSYSOBJ, OUTPUTINTOFULLTEXT, OLDSYSTEMTABLES, DUMPLOAD, MERGE, ...
The status of these issues is critical and it is suggested that they be resolved prior to the upgrade, but I don't know what the issue means let alone how to resolve it. Can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

SSMS 2014 Solution Explorer doesn't display project or project items
I recently installed SSMS 2014 and SP1 on my Windows 7 Pro x64 system. I used both 2005 and 2012 prior to this installation.
I cannot figure out why Solution Explorer is not working in the new version. In prior versions, I was able to create Solutions/Projects to organize my script files. However, I cannot do the same thing in 2014. I have tried several times to create a new solution and add a script project and even a couple scripts. However, each time I created a solution and added a project, I had to add an additional project before any of it would show in Solution Explorer. After adding a second project to the solution then both projects suddenly were visible in SE. I deleted the extra project and went about adding a connection and a couple query files. These objects were visible in SE for a few sessions but if I closed a query file, the next session would yield an empty Solution Explorer and I cannot do anything about it. With SSMS closed, I opened the project and solution files in a text editor and everything looks okay (I'm no expert on these files).
I went to a Microsoft site today and found a note that indicated that future versions of SSMS will not include Solution Explorer and to avoid using it now. If I cannot easily see my files in Solution Explorer, how does that help customers to find their project files in SSMS?
Anybody else run across this issue?

Hi,
I'm trying to install BIDS and SSMS for SQL Server 2012 on my machine. However, I can't get passed validation step that indicates SP1 needs to be installed for Visual Studio 2010. However, I have installed an re-installed VS2010 SP1 already.
Has anyone had the same problem?

Best Cloud Free/trial version of SQL Server, to do some tests on OLTP/ETL/SSIS/SSAS
Hi,
i'm a newbie about cloud, and i need to get a cloud free version of SQL Server and share it with a colleague.
I'll probably need to do database and BI stuff: work with OLTP, do some ETL on SSIS, and mainly SSAS Tabular.
Is it be easy to connect to Power BI?
Best regards
New to SQL, having issues
Hello, I have a job opportunity and I need to learn SQL. I have been studying on W3.com and using their free learning tools, and I also have taken a tutorial on it. I understand the language as it is obviously very intuitive, but I really want some hands on experience before I attempt this work assessment. I have downloaded the 2008 version of SQL because my laptop is older and when i try to download the newer version it gives me an error saying that it will not work with my OS. I don't have the money to buy Microsoft 8 right now so I am trying it with the 2008 version.
I get an option that says SQL server import and export. I try and use data on my computer to create a table and it shows me none of my files when I browse.
The problem I have is, all the tutorial stuff and the W3.com lessons teach me the language and how to use it, but they start from the point of already having SQL loaded and having databases and tables that can be queried and searched, etc. I need to know how to get information into a table so I can query, actually use the commands, etc.
I am a newb at programming, so any help is hugely appreciated. Thanks!
Initialization Failure 0x0000005
I hope this is the proper page to ask for help with this problem. I downloaded International QQ several months ago and it has been working quite well until recently. Now, when I try to open it I get the message "Initialization Failure 0x0000005" and it will not run. I use QQ to keep in touch with my friends in China and so really need it to talk to them. I have deleted it and reinstalled it as well as Moxilla firefox and still no change. Please give me some assistance with this dilemma.
Thanks for your assistance!!
