While we are doing upgrade for SQL 2008 to 2014. We are getting below error logs on WIndows vCenter server.

As we saw over remote session vCenter services are not starting as expected. When I install SQL Server 2017 Dev, I always get the error message file is corrupt.

I double click the setup.exe, then error appears. Three days ago, I installed it without any error.

I installed MS SQL Server 2012, 11.0.2100.60.  I want to access sqlcmd.exe from an MSDOS script file.  

There is no sqlcmd.exe on my computer, other than one buried way down in the folder from which MS SQL Server 2012 is intalled. When I try to execute this sqlcmd.exe, I receive the following error message:  "The program can't start because BatchParser.dll is missing from your computer.  Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

Questions:

1. Why was sqlcmd.exe not installed as part of the SqL Server installation?

2. What do I have to do to install sqlcmd.exe?

I  am trying to set up SQL server (2016 or 2017) in Hyper-V.  I've downloaded 3 different ISO's from MS ( SQL 2016, SQL 2017, and SQL 2017 DEV).  I point HyperV's DVD to the ISO all result in

No UEFI-compatible file system was found

(as a test I tried Server 2016 as a test and it installs with no issues).  

My Host is Windows 10

My HyperV Manager is V 10.0.17134.1

I have Windows 10 Professional 64-bit OS on my laptop.

I have Office 365 32-bit on my machine (to emulate a client's setup).

I have Visual Studio 2017 Community loaded.  In that, I have Visual C++ loaded.  And VB.NET and C#.NET, and Linux C++.

I tried to load Sql Server Express on my machine, and got this message:

visual studio runtime "microsoft Visual c++ 2017 x64 Minimum Runtime - 14.16.27012" needs to be repaired.

Same thing happens if I tried to install the SS Developer version.

I uninstalled VS 2017 and reinstalled (which took a looooooooooooooonnnnggggggg time).  I tried to reinstall SS Express.  I get the same error message.  I can find nothing in a google search about this. 

Anyone know what is up?

i installed SQL Server 2008 R2 on a customers new server about half a year ago - I remember very well having used the DVD and entering a serial. Nontheless now I get the a. m. error message and I very much suspect that it was caused by a Windows Update. But what can I do about it? The SQL Server services are stopped and cannot be restarted, SSMS does noch work any more, what can I do to fix that problem? Uninstall and reinstall?

We are migrating our DB server's from SQL Server 2012 to SQL Server 2016. I wanted to check whether there is any way to check the current load on the new DB server.

FYI, we don't want to use distributed replay, looking for something which is very light such as server side traces.

I have noticed that my Transaction Log Backup Job fails frequently (once or twice a day, every day). In the SQL Server error log I find the following errors:

Command failed: BACKUP LOG is terminating abnormally. (50000)

Error: 50000, Severity: 16, State: 1.

BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP LOG DatabaseX. Check the backup application log for detailed messages.

Error: 3041, Severity: 16, State: 1.

These errors come at random times and I cannot find any relevant events on the Application and Server Event Log from my DB Server nor my Backup Server.

I also have other DB Instances running Transaction Log Backups at around the same time and using the same Backup Server.
Has anyone experienced something similar?

What else should I be looking at? SQL Server Log + Application Log + Server Log weren't a big help....

I have a w2k8 r2 server, with sql 2012 sp4, all installed fine. However this GDR just will not install.

When I run setup.exe, it starts to launch (nothing is shown), then just dies. I can find no logs or event entries as to why it fails to launch properly.

Any way to get it to log in a debug type mode?

I just installed a new MS SQL 2016 server. Everything went well, installed with the different partitions like MS best practices, but I did one thing wrong. I dont need/want the PolyBase installation. This mpdwsvc takes 2 times 500 MB memory for the database Movement and Engine, so 1 GB for something I wont use.

The situation is still clean, but I want to remove these options before we are getting different things installed on this DB.

I cannot find it on the internet, so could anyone please explain me how to remove the PolyBase configuration from this server? I see the SQL Server PolyBase Engine and Data movement service for the main database.

I hope I dont need to uninstall complete SQL and start the installation all over, to get rit of this Polybase.

I can't get data tools to install either with Visual Studio 2017 Enterprise or as a standalone. If I tried to install it with Visual Studio 2017 Enterprise. I don't get an error, but I can't open or create any SSIS or SSRS packages. If I try to install the stand alone Visual Studio Data Tools 2017 then I get the following error from the log below. I've tried to install the vs_sql.exe located on the site for an offline install. That doesn't seem to help. Anyone have any ideas?
