SQL Server 2012 Developer Installation Failure - Cannot find one or more components. Please reinstall the app

I am trying to install SQL Server 2012 Developer on a PC running Windows 8  Enterprise x64.

During the installation it showed that all prerequisites were met.

The installation proceeds about 2/3 of the through then displays a message box indicating

"Cannot find one or more components.  Please reinstall the applications.

The title bar for the message box indicates SQL Server Management Studio.

I tired completely uninstall and reinstalling.

I even tried unchecking the SP1 option during the installation but it made not differe4nce whatsoever.

I am installing a default instance and there is no upgrade involved.

Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2012 are also installed along with their latest service pack.

Windows 8 Enterprise also has all of the patches installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have been installing SQL Server Developer since 2000 and this is the first time where I have failed to get it installed.

Can't uninstall SQL 2012 ? Error Code 0x84b10001

I keep getting this error when I try to install, repair or uninstall SQL 2012 which won't run because of another error? Here is the error..

sql server has encontoiured the following error:

Could not load file or assembly \\\ C:/program files/microsoft/sql server/ 110 blah blah blah huge path / Microsoft.SQLserver.Configuration.Setup.Extension.DLL  Error Code 0x84b10001

I'm also not able to open SQL server management studio 2012. I have Management Studio 2008, but I need 2012 for my remote host which is using 2012. So, when I try with 2008 to open my db at the host, I get an error that I need 2012. This is driving me nuts..

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate with 8gig of ram, solid state drive, on a lap top, latest updates, etc,. I also have VIsual Studio 2012 Pro, Webmatrix, and everything else works fine. Just this one damn SQL server Management studio that I need for it's visual tools to do relationships with, etc, and it doesn't work. Any help would be most appreciated.. I'm going to try to update SQL server again and the computer in general to see if that helps..

A search gives me a lot of stuff about 2008 sql, but nothing with the same error, so I'm afraid to try those solutions since they don't seem to be the same problem as I'm having!

SQL 2005 on Server 2008

We are building a new server which is currently 2003 data center with SQL 2005. The app team and DB team would like to keep everything the same. I would like to use 2008 R2 as the OS. This wil be an active/passive cluster.

Which is the better option:

1) install SQL 2005 on 2008 R2 and address known issues with SQL 2005 on server 2008 R2.

2) install SQL 2005 on 2003 data center, keep everything the same, no new issues or workarounds.

Thanks,

I am trying to install CU3 for SQL Server 2008 R2 on a clustered environment to resolve the verbose log issue with SQLAgent as described inKB2718920 but the installer has failed on the servers I have tried installing. This is the error message I see in the Detail.txt file created by the installer. I have also looked at the solution provided in the Forum Thread. The solution was to rename a file but I do not even see the folder in the C drive.

Try to rename theC:\Windows\system32\perf-MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER-sqlagtctr.dll file

SQL server installation from command line and configuration file

$

I would like to try use command line and configutionfile to install SQL server.
I read I should put the commandline fine in the root of installation file.

We have a shared folder that has all the installation file on the network, I don't have write permission on that folder. I don't want to copy those installation files to my local too, then what other options can I do?

I tried to add in the command line to change the directory to the installation files location at start, but since it is a shared directory, I got an error: CMD does not support UNC paths as current directories.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

Batch file to backup SQL Server Express 2008 R2 Fails with Error 2

Here is the batch file that I am using:

cd "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn"
sqlcmd -S xxxxxxxx -d SQLEXPRESSAO12 -i "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\AO12.sql" -U cga\administrator -P xxxxxxxxxxxx
pause

And here is the result:

Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [2]...

I have checked the instance name a thousand times, I have made sure that there is read/write access to the folder and I have made sure that remote connections are allowed and that named pipes protocol is turned on.  I have also made sure that the SQLServer Service is running on the administrator account.

I got the script file from SSSM and it works just fine inside of SSSM, but here is the script file contents:

Slient install of Sql 2012 enterprise fails 'MEDIALAYOUT' is invalid"

I'm trying to install SQL 2012 using the config file. It's failing and reporting 'MEDIALAYOUT' is invalid. The problem is that this isn't even a parmater that exists in the file. I know it's finding the file, because it I put a bogus file name there, it complains and says "invalid file". So i think it's reading the file, doesn't like something in there, then it kicks out this erroneous error that means nothing. I've looked in the event logs, see nothing.

Has anybody seen this before? It not, is there any other log file I can look at that will tell me specifically what might be wrong?

.\setup.exe \ConfigurationFile=ConfigurationFile.ini

The specified value for setting 'MEDIALAYOUT' is invalid. The expected values are:None, Core, Advanced, Full

I'm trying to install MSSQL 2008r2 Enterprise edition.  Getting the following error message

The following error has occurred:

An error occurred during the installation of assembly

'Microsoft.VC80.MFCLOC,version="8.0.50727.4027",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorA

rchitecture="x86",type="win32". Please refer to Help and Support for more informatio.  HRESULT:

0x800703F9.

All the articles I can find refer only to Windows Vista as it relates to the 0x800703F9 error.

I am running Windows 7 Enterprise, 4GB RAM and Quad Core Processor.

It was installed successfully previously.  Had to uninstall to demo an install and it will not install again.  I have also tried SQL Express,

Developer edition.

I have been fighting this and other SQL issues for almost 3 weeks now.  I have searched all over the web and tried many of the solutions including sfc /scannow (which threw an error as well).  I've tried uninstalling and re-installed .NET 4.0 (had issues with that).  I'm just so frustrated.  All I want is to install SQL and get my front end software running again.

SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012 - HasSecurityBackupAndDebugPrivilegesCheck impact?

Hi,

Just installed "SQL Server Data Tools – Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012" from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/download/details.aspx?id=36843

To overcome a setup support rule check issue, I had to install the tool with the following switches:

setup.exe /ACTION=Install /FEATURES=SSDTBI_VS2012 /SKIPRULES=HasSecurityBackupAndDebugPrivilegesCheck

The installation seems to be successful, SSDT seems to be functional. (I don't expect that SSDT would deal with auditing or security logs.)

Again, this is NOT a SQL Server 2012 installation. It just comes as a SQL Server 2012 setup package.

Can anyone explain the impact of using this switch value? Or tell what features will be unavailable / not fully functional due to skipping this check?

Thanks in advance,

Zoli

I could use some help with tis error. I have followed the MS SQL Server MOF questions/discussions that have been posted on this site:

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sqlsetupandupgrade/thread/48ade0d2-f1ef-4dea-b8d8-eaaa0e233bca

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/zh/sqlsetupandupgrade/thread/cd230ff1-2b18-49ac-b250-88891c9da901

none have solved the problem. I am new to installing SQL 2008, but it appears it "should" be straight forward. I am trying to install SQL 2008 R2 on a 2003 R2 32 bit server. I have gone as far as removing all SQL entries in the registry, removing all SQL entries in add/remove programs, renaming all MS SQL folders in \program files\.

Can someone more experienced have a look at my logs and if so state which ones?
