SSIS Package Error after installing SQL Server 2012 SP1 Cumulative Update 3

After updating my desktop to SQL Server 2012 SP1 CU3 (11.0.3349), my SSIS Projects fail with the following error:

TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio
------------------------------

The type initializer for 'Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.Design.SharedIcons' threw an exception.

------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Value of 'null' is not valid for 'stream'. (System.Drawing)

------------------------------
BUTTONS:

OK

I uninstalled the hot fix back to Cumulative Update 2 (11.0.3339) and the packages open without error.

Is there a published workaround for this issue?

Thanks,

How can I check to see if my custom install can install SQL before my custom installer trys to install SQL 2008 or 2012

I have a install for my software that depends on SQL. I want to install SQL 2008 or 2012 express versions if SQL does not exist on the system. However, it is possible and likely that the system has been configured in a way that causes the SQL install to fail. I want to run a pre-install check to make sure SQL has the correct permissions to install before I attempt the install. Is there a way to call the SQL install so that you can get a return of errors without actually installing SQL. Or is there a program I can run as part of my install to check the system will not block the SQL install. My ultimate goal is to problematically set the polices and  permissions of the system, Install SQL and then reset the computer permissions to the way they were before the install.

SQL 08 SP3 install error 0x84b20001

I have tried on two different test servers to install SQL 2008 SP3. I get the following:

-----------------------------------------
TITLE: SQL Server Setup failure.
------------------------------

SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:

The NT service 'MSSQLSERVER' could not be started.

Error code 0x84B20001.
------------------------------------------

When you click the 'OK' button, it says it is getting the sql error, but then it just disappears. When I check, SQL has the updated version number, and if I try to install the SP3 again, it says there are no applicable engines to update. So it seems that the update went part way through, errored out, left no indication of why, and then locked me in so that I cant try again, other than to completely uninstall and re-install.

SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:
Unknown property.

There is no error code, no description, just the FULL STOP!! beneath unknown property, they have uninstalled and re installed countless times, removing every trace of the sql in all the expected places. They are stumped!

Anyone else encountered this problem on windows 8

Error While Rebuilding system databases

Hi,

I installed my SQL Server with a wrong collation. I tried to rebuild the instance and when i tried doing that I am getting a weird error as given below. ALso the installation is picking the edition as evaluation instead of enterprise, i tried executing the install file and it went through to install a enterprise edition. I am not sure why the installer is picking up the evaluation edition instead of enterprise as the option is set.

SQL Server 2008 R2 Installed on Windows Server 2012 vs Windows Server 2008 R2

$

Hello. I'm aware that SQL Server 2008 R2 is supported on Windows Server 2012 with SP1 or higher. Is anyone currently running SQL 08 R2 on Server 2012? Any noticeable pros or cons vs running on Win Server 2008 R2? Any performance increase from using Win Server 2012? If you were standing up a new SQL 2008 R2 server today, would you build it as Win Server 2008 R2 or Win Server 2012 and why?

Just looking for opinions and thoughts from others.

SQL server 2000 upgrade to SQL server 2012

While migrating from SQL server 2000 databases to SQL server 2012 databases , we need to follow one of the below approach .

SQL server 2000>>SQL Server 2005 SP4 >> SQL server 2012

  • Clean approach to migrate Remediation of Non ANSI SQL 2000 code to ANSI complained code
  • TOC of SQL server 2005 is less than the TOC for SQL server 2008
  • Amount of remediation for data type deprecation, syntax changes is high from SQL 2000 to SQL 2008 migration

SQL server 2000>>SQL Server 2008 R2 >> SQL server 2012

  • Remediation for SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 will be handled in on go
  • TOC of SQL server 2008 is higher than the TOC of SQL server 2005
  • Most of the remediation issue will be address at the intermediate migration

Kindly let me know your views about the best approach ?

Repair SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2

Hi everyone,

I would like to repair my actual SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 CU1 Express with Advanced Services setup.

BTW, the "SELECT @@VERSION" statement actually gives me this result:

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP2) - 10.50.4000.0 (Intel X86)   Jun 28 2012 08:42:37   Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation  Express Edition with Advanced Services on Windows NT 6.0 <X86> (Build 6002: Service Pack 2)

When going through the "control panel/add-remove programs",  I then got a popup window:  "Browse for SQL Server 2008 R2 installation media".  Where should I find this setup file the repair process is asking for?

Looking at my C: drive for any setup files like "SQLEXPRADV_*.exe", I could find the following:

  • C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\SQL Server 2008 Express Install\Downloads\SqlExpressWithAdv\SQLEXPRADV_x86_FRA.exe:  version is 10.0.1601.1
  • C:\Users\All Users\Microsoft\SQL Server 2008 Express Install\Downloads\SqlExpressWithAdv\SQLEXPRADV_x86_FRA.exe: version is also 10.0.1601.1
  • The one I recently downloaded from the web - SQLEXPRADV_x86_ENU.exe:  version is10.50.4000.0

  I also found these ones:

  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2008R2\x86\setup100.exe
    version: 10.50.4000.0   date: 2012-06-29
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Update Cache\KB2494086\QFE\x86\setup100.exe
    version: 10.50.1790.0   date: 2011-06-14
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Update Cache\KB2507770\QFE\x86\setup100.exe
    version: 10.50.1777.0   date: 2011-06-10
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Update Cache\KB2528583\ServicePack\x86\setup100.exe
    version: 10.50.2500.0  date: 2011-07-25
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Update Cache\KB2544793\QFE\x86\setup100.exe
    version:  10.50.2769.0 date: 2011-07-27
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Update Cache\KB2630458\ServicePack\x86\setup100.exe
    version:  10.50.4000.0 date: 2013-01-10

Which one would you suggest I choose for my repair?  I would myself choose the last one (KB2630458) but I'm not sure because of the SP2CU1 level I currently am. Or maybe I'm still not looking at the right place?

Thanks in advance for helping,

Stéphane

Hi Guys,

I hope to getoverall memory consumed by SQL Server 2012(installed in a is 64 bit windows 2008 R2),but when I looked at the result from dbcc memorystatus,  I'm a little confused: VMCommitted is only 32812KB, AWE allocated(locked pages for 64 bit OS): 1009736KB, Current Committed :1042024 KB.

Unable to Update SQL 2005 and 2008 on SBS 2003

I have inherited a SBS 2003 server at my new job that had many issues. I have finally gotten the server cleaned up for the most part, but I cannot seem to get SQL 2005 SP4 and SQL 2008 SP3 to install. I have followed the KB on restoring missing cache and windows installer files, I have tried to run repairs and everything I try fails . We have several databases in SQL that run our production floor, and I need to resolve these errors.

I beleive that Both 2008 and 2005 are unable to find their proper source code from the installations, unfortunately I have none of the original media that these programs were installed with. I do have the license\product key for SQL 2008, but no where to download that particular version of the product with. Please let me know if there are more log files that are needed to help narrow down this issue. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Error installing sql server 2008 r2 from iso download

Having some issues where after downloading the 2008 sql server developer r2 from the licensing website.  When I click on the setup.exe file I get this message. This SQL Server Setup media is not supported on a X64 system. To continue, run the SQl Server Setup media that matches your system.

There is only 1 download in the licensing center so I dont know where the other media would be.  If I extract the files to another folder and than click the setup.exe file the dos window pops up for a second but it doesn't install.

Anyone know of what I am doing wrong or why I am getting that error message?  This is all very new to me, with 2005 I bought a cd and installed from that but this is a new pc and wanted to take advantage of some of the additional features 2008 has.  Operating system is windows 7 pro 64 bit.

Thanks in advance,

Sal

Maintenance Plan Creation Failure

I just tried to create a maintenance plan on a SQL Server 2012 instance (build 11.0.3349), but I receive this error:
"TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
------------------------------
Provide value on 'System.Windows.Markup.StaticExtension' threw an exception. (PresentationFramework)
------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. (mscorlib)

The type initializer for 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Graph.Extended.HighContrastSupport' threw an exception. (Microsoft.SqlServer.IntegrationServices.Graph)
------------------------------
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\Binn\ManagementStudio\devenv.exe (System)"

This was already working on my system. I recently had to install .NET Framework 4.5 for VS 2012. Maybe it corrupted anything?

C:\Windows\system32>regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\DTS\Binn\DTS.dll" did not help for this issue.

Does anybody have an idea what's wrong here?

Thanks, Klaus

Can't seem to restrict access to SQL Server 2005 even with non-standard static port

Hi,

I am trying to make my SQL Server 2005 a little more secure by using a non-standard static port.  I have already disabled the sa account, but I'm still getting hit at least once a second with an attempt to login to my server from a potential attacker so I thought using a static, non-standard port would do the trick.

I stopped the SQL Browser service, left the port number unspecified for the IP1 and IP2 entries in the SQL Server Configuration Tool and set a non-standard port for IPAll. I thought that was all I needed to do.

I'm using a .NET website to test the connection.  I left my connection string in the web.config alone, so I was expecting I would get a login failure when the website attempted to connect to the database.  Without a port number specified in the connection string, it should attempt to connect using the default port and fail, right?  But, I'm still able to gain access to the website.

I made sure to restart the SQL Service after making changes.  Also, I have verified that the SQL Browser service is not running.  Is there any additional information I need to provide?

Thanks in advance for your time.

David

I am doing atest of what happens if model database .dmf and .ldf files are mssing. I tried to do a reapir from installatio CD but it failed that it cannot find model.mdf file... Then waht is the puprose of reparite.

Since my master database and msdb databases are intact and I have backups of model database; how can bring my sql server 2008 instance up. I have read many article son internet but nothing works. When I try to rebuid master database, it gives some error;

2013-03-24 02:08:59 Slp:
2013-03-24 02:08:59 Slp: Error result: -2068643838
2013-03-24 02:08:59 Slp: Result facility code: 1203
2013-03-24 02:08:59 Slp: Result error code: 2

But I should not have rebuild master database because master database and msdb databases are intact. errorlog only shows problem with model database.
