It says I already have a native client installed but I practically uninstalled everything that had to do with sql. Is there something I think to change to force the install to continue?

Unable to Install SQL2008R2 Developer on Windows 7 Professional SP1 - Just purchased

Hello,

After hours or installing, uninstalling, readnig and following endless MS posts in support websites and knowledgebase articles, uninstalling other componenets ercommended by those processes, reinstalling updates, and then still failing to install SQL Server Developer 2008 R2 - I'm desparate for help.

I have a corporate image WIndows 7 Professional Machine that is about 45 days new.  I have tried on several occassions to install the following (uninstall and reinstalls inbetween).

    SQL Server 2005 Express

    SQL Server 2008 Express

    SQL Server 2012 Express

     SQL Developer 2008

     SQL Developer 2008 R2.

I have been unssucessful with all but the SQL2012 Express - always with the same symptom the Setup produces the "SQL Server 2008 R2 Setup has stopped working" - and then the main setup layout reports that all the "tools" I tried to install "Failed", but connectivity always seems to succeed.  The only time this was EVER successful was installing the SQL2012 Express with SP1 - which does not provide the tools I need (BIDS etc to connect to our SQL2008 servers).

    Integration Services - Failed

    Client Tools Connectivity - Success

Management Tools - Complete - Failed

   Client Tools SDK - Success

Client Tools Backward Compatibility - Success

Business Intelligence Development Studio - Failed

Management Tools - Basic - Failed

   Microsoft Sync Framework - Success.

After much searching I landed at this article: <link removed - due to account verification requirement>

which seemed to indicate there was some type of incompatibility between SQL2008/SQL2008R2 and Windows 7 that could be addressed by "slipstreaming" the SP1 (I picked SP2 since I assume its newer and comprehensive).  After hours of copying the files off the media - downloading and extracting all the SP files, copying the content over as recommended and running the command recommended to "slipstream" - end result was the same.

I'm at my wits end - a $50 software package shouldn't require hours of problems to install on a reasonably current operating system - nor should it require a PAID SUPPORT CHARGE to contact Microsoft to work out the issues in the product installation (thats purely a customer PoV ofc).

Any guidance that doesn't involve "please uninstall using the recommended procedure" and "reinstall using the same process you used 10 times previous" would be very much appreciated.

I'm hoping (after trying to follow this article that describes analyzing the logs: <link removed - due to account verification requirement>  ) that this is something the logs will really help rootcause.

First (I believe) the setup.exe (or some .msi) is CRASHING - since it is creating Dr Watson logs.

If I read correctly, I run off to check into the trin_aide_Cpu32_1.log  (17 MB) - feels like needle_in_haystack mode atm:

(searching for "error", "exception" (wasnt useful - tons of matches) and "Watson"):

to be honest I'm not sure what to provide from the 17MB logfile.

Point is I'm jsut trying to install the tools - not even the SQL Engines.  Help !!

rename drive and move mdf ldf files

hi ,I am having a development server:

C: drive , installation files and System databases mdf and ldf sits here

F drive : 300 GB free space( backups are stored here : i know its a bad idea )

G drive :286 GB free Space ( all user databases MDF and LDF sits here)

we have a plan to move all files from F drive to G drive and Rename the G drive to F drive

My plans were

Plan A .i would have to shut down sql server, rename the Drive to F  and  then attach the database mdf and ldf files with new F: drive names

Plan B .backup all the databases to some other location (N/W share ) and restore  with changing the mdf ldf locations.

which is the better one and also is there any other way to do it ?

and do i have to check for orphan users ?and how about execute permissions ?

Please give me some suggestions

Thanks

Set Up Failed There was a failure to calculate the default value of setting INSTANCEID

I've tried to install and uninstall SQL Server 2012, both express and eval, but keep getting same error. I have tried this from burned dvd and from an expanded folder on my pc; it just seems that with every attempt I have made I get so far and then I get the same error repeatedly.  I've also re-downloaded the media, tried the RTM and SP1 versions, no change.  I tried not installing setup updates, as well as installing them - each time uninstalling sql setup inbetween.  I have updated my .NET framework to the new 4.5 version, I have Powershell 2.0 installed.  All pre-req checks succeed.

Computer is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, 4GB RAM.

This is what the Summary.text file has:

I tried installing sql server express on my computer but it failed.  I have windows 7 x64 home premium installed.  Three quarters of the way through the install the error "Could not find the Database Engine startup handle" failed.  There is nothing on the internet that addresses this error for the express version.  In subsequent posts, my logs will be listed.

SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 failed to run a command line for upgrage/install from SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1

The "SQLServer2008R2SP2-KB2630458-x86-ENU" was downloaded for installing SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 on Windows 7 32bit OS which already had SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 installed.  The SQL SP2 was extracted to a local folder in drive C.  From a command shell with Administration permision, I ran the followings at the SQL2008R2SP2 directory:

Case 1: showed Error of a value of the Action parameter is NOT valid.

"setup.exe" /qs /IAcceptSQLServerLicenseTerms /ACTION=Install /FEATURES=SQL,Tools

Case 2: showed Error of a value of the Action parameter is NOT valid.

"setup.exe" /qs /IAcceptSQLServerLicenseTerms /ACTION=Upgrade /FEATURES=SQL,Tools

Case 3: showed Error of a value of the Action parameter is NOT valid.

"setup.exe" /qs /IAcceptSQLServerLicenseTerms /ACTION=EditionUpgrade /FEATURES=SQL,Tools

Case 4: showed Error of ... Not support FEATURE parameter.

"setup.exe" /qs /IAcceptSQLServerLicenseTerms /ACTION=EditionUpgrade /FEATURES=SQL,Tools

Case 5: successfully.  But SQL Database Engine was NOT updated, only Native Client and Setup are updated to SP2

"setup.exe" /qs /IAcceptSQLServerLicenseTerms /ACTION=EditionUpgrade

Case 6: successfully installed if using GUI.  All components were updated to SP2.

Preconclusion:  Is it SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 not supported command line method for upgrading?

Please advise.

Repair SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2

Hi everyone,

I would like to repair my actual SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 CU1 Express with Advanced Services setup.

BTW, the "SELECT @@VERSION" statement actually gives me this result:

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP2) - 10.50.4000.0 (Intel X86)   Jun 28 2012 08:42:37   Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation  Express Edition with Advanced Services on Windows NT 6.0 <X86> (Build 6002: Service Pack 2)

When going through the "control panel/add-remove programs",  I then got a popup window:  "Browse for SQL Server 2008 R2 installation media".  Where should I find this setup file the repair process is asking for?

Looking at my C: drive for any setup files like "SQLEXPRADV_*.exe", I could find the following:

  • C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\SQL Server 2008 Express Install\Downloads\SqlExpressWithAdv\SQLEXPRADV_x86_FRA.exe:  version is 10.0.1601.1
  • C:\Users\All Users\Microsoft\SQL Server 2008 Express Install\Downloads\SqlExpressWithAdv\SQLEXPRADV_x86_FRA.exe: version is also 10.0.1601.1
  • The one I recently downloaded from the web - SQLEXPRADV_x86_ENU.exe:  version is10.50.4000.0

  I also found these ones:

  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2008R2\x86\setup100.exe
    version: 10.50.4000.0   date: 2012-06-29
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Update Cache\KB2494086\QFE\x86\setup100.exe
    version: 10.50.1790.0   date: 2011-06-14
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Update Cache\KB2507770\QFE\x86\setup100.exe
    version: 10.50.1777.0   date: 2011-06-10
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Update Cache\KB2528583\ServicePack\x86\setup100.exe
    version: 10.50.2500.0  date: 2011-07-25
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Update Cache\KB2544793\QFE\x86\setup100.exe
    version:  10.50.2769.0 date: 2011-07-27
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Update Cache\KB2630458\ServicePack\x86\setup100.exe
    version:  10.50.4000.0 date: 2013-01-10

Which one would you suggest I choose for my repair?  I would myself choose the last one (KB2630458) but I'm not sure because of the SP2CU1 level I currently am. Or maybe I'm still not looking at the right place?

Thanks in advance for helping,

Stéphane

SQL Server 2008 R2 Upgrade Advisor - Checks Database db_compat level or Server Version?

My current Database Server is SQL Server 2008 R2 and the database compatibility level is 80. I wanted to check the issues with my database if it will be upgraded to compatibility level 100.

I found this link (connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/715400/upgrade-advisor-should-check-database-db-compat-level-not-server-version) from Microsoft Connect which states that the SQL Server 2008 R2 Upgrade Advisor checks for Server Version (already 2008 R2 in this case) rather than db_compat level (80 in this case). If SQL Server 2008 R2 Upgrade Advisor checks for Server Version, it will not report any issue as server is already 2008 R2 and it will not find anything to report.

Do I need to install SQL Server 2000 and copy my database to that server with compatibility level 80 in order to enable SQL Server 2008 R2 Upgrade Advisor to do the analysis correctly?

I installed both sqlserver 2012 express and developer edition successfully, however, integration, analysis and report service are all greyed out in Management studio. what could cause the problem? When trying to open a new integration project in the visual studio, the error message shows ''SSDT has to be installed" which I already did.

Hi,

I'm trying to install SQL Server 2012 SP1 Standard x64 onto Windows 7 SP1 x64 Ultimate but I'm getting the following error:

SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:

Error occured while saving setting RSINSTALLMODE to configuration file C:\Program Files\Microsoft\SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\Log\20130330_070131\ConfigurationFile.ini.

    Error code 0x84C90001.

I used to have SQL Server 2008 R2 on this machine but I uninstalled it and now trying to install SQL Server 2012 SP1.  I also have Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2012 installed on this same machine.

Any ideas/suggestions how to get past this error?

Thanks!
Greg

Unable to uninstall SQL 2008

I cannot uninstall SQL Server 2008 Express version 10.2.4000.0

After selecting the instance to remove I get the error "removal architecture mismatch" and cannot continue.

Expanding the error I see

Rule "Removal Architecture Mismatch"

The CPU architectures of feature(s) you selected to remove are different then Setup.

To remove these features, Setup architecture must be the same as the features being installed.

I want to connect to a SQL Server Express 2012 located on a file server from a client but unable to connect via ODBC connection. What are the setup requirements for the server and the client?

Thanks

Dan

Do I need to set the firewall on the client to recognize the server? What configurations do I need to do at the client?

I have enabled the TCP/IP and Pipes on server and set the protocols to blank and 1433 port. I can ping the server from the client.

Do I need to set the Native Client TCP/IP and pipes to enabled?

SQL Server 2012 stops running after setup files are copied.

SQL Server 2012 setup stops running after setup files are copied.

I've experiencing the same issue on two different machines. Both are 64 bit running Server 2008.

On both of them I tried installing using the files from the ISO. I initially used winzip to extract the files. The setup was running fine, but the SQL Server engine had an error when it installed. Then using the Add/Remove programs i uninstalled all of the SQL Server 2012 applications, including the setup files.

Now when i try to install using the "New SQL Server stand-alone..." wizard it will copy the setup files and then the wizard never comes back. I've tried mounting the ISO, extracting with winrar, Burning the ISO to a dvd and downloading the 3 files. I also tried mounting ISO of the version that was just recently released. I run into the same issue with all of them.

Thanks for the help.

Login Failed after SQL 2008 r2 SP2 Upgrade

I have 2 database server and they are replicated each other. I upgraded SQL2008 R2 SP2 secondary server which works fine. But the primary server. when I run the upgrade, it was taking ages. So I thought it is not working due to MSSQLSERVER services. So I turned off the service while the upgrade was stack in middle. Just after I turned off that service, after 30 second, I got update is completed successfully. But now I am getting error 18401. bellow are the details. I followed the workaround steps from here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2163980

So I can log in when the flag is turned on in step 1. But after step 10, I am now trying to relogin, and getting the same error.

Any help please !!!!
