SQL Server 2012 installation issues

Hi,

The other day I installed SQL Server Express 2012 as a new instance (I already have an Express 2008r2 instance, which continues to work), using SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.exe from MS site. This seemed to work well and I restored some databases to the instance and also wrote some SSRS reports against it. So all seemed well. When I rebooted my computer two SQL Server updates automatically downloaded and failed to install (KB2716442 and KB2674319), unfortunately I did not know they had failed and on next reboot the following update was added KB2793634 and it also failed.

Now SQL Server 2012 is left in a script stage and I cannot access it. I have tried uninstalling SQL Server but I now get a message Remote Procedure Call Failed: Error Code:0x84BB0001.

So I'm stuck with a SQL server instance that I cannot use or uninstall, has anyone got any ideas on how to move forward. This is the Summary.txt output and this is thelog output folder

I'd be happy just to clear it all down and start again!

regards,

Anthony

SQl Server 2008 R2 standard to enterprise edition upgrade

hi,

I have got a question about the SQL edition upgrade. I want to upgrade a SQL server 2008 R2 from standard edition to enterprise edition. I have never done this before but from what i have read it should be pretty straight forward using the installer--> maintenance --> edition upgrade -->  enter the product key and voila.

however, from the technet subscriptions website i am unable to retreive a product key. When i choose SQL server 2008 R2 i am only able to download the SQL server 2008 R2 enterprise edition ISO.

so my question is: is there any difference between doing an edition upgrade using the key like mentioned above and doing an edition upgrade using the iso i got from technet subscriptions and do a complete install, or is there any way to extract the product key from the technet iso. Because the way i see it when i use the technet iso i have to re-install the complete software and there is a chance i lose configuration data. Or will i be able to use the edition upgrade from the technet iso even though i havn't got a product key?

thanks in advance

SQL Server 2012 SP1 Installation

Hello MSDN,

I have a MS Server 2012 R2 machine to which I would like to add SQL Server 2012 SP1. I do not know much about SQL Server 2012 and have some questions. What happens to the MS Server 2012 R2 installation, does SQL Server exist with MS Server 2012 or replace it? Are their different installation methods?  Where can I find complete installation instructions?

Thanks for your help.

This update repeatedly fails to install on my Windows Vista computer. Isn't there a patch by now that resolves the registry problem to get this to install successfully? I am unfamiliar with going into my registry and reluctant to do so.

SQL Server 2012 On Windows 7 Embedded

Hi All

I am having a bit of difficulty with installing SQL Server Standard 2012 on Windows 7 Embedded.

I seem to be able to install SQL Server 2008R2 Standard without any issues

(I have looked at the OS specs for both and they are pretty much the same, neither mention Embedded anything)

Would I need to put SQL Server 2012 for Embedded systems as seen further down the list here

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsembedded/en-gb/downloads.aspx

Is there a trial version of the embedded sql 2012 as the link here just seems to take you through to the Standard Eval addition which wont install.

(The OS is SP1 and has been fully updated as per windows updater)

There doens't seem to be allot of information on this

Many Thanks

John

Does SQL Server (2003, 2008, 2012) support TLS 1.2? Is so, how to configure it?

Does SQL Server (2003, 2008, 2012) support TLS 1.2? Is so, how to configure it?

I have installed SQL Server 2008 R2 on a Windows 2008 R2 machine, and following instruction to set TLS 1.2 for IIS, while IIS works with TLS 1.2 (verified with a remote browser restricted to TLS 1.2), the SQL Server to a restricted client would fail and the server had chosen TLS 1.0 - anyone knows if there is a solution for this - many thanks.

Is SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM EOL?

Database Server Requirement - SharePoint 2013

Hi All - We have SharePoint 2010 and we are planning to upgrade to 2013. We have Windows Server 2008 Enterprise R2 with SP 1.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485.aspx#section4 Suggest to have minimum SP1 for SQL Server 2008 Enterprise R2. We already have SQL Server 2008 Enterprise R2 and was installing SP1 from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26727  (SQLServer2008R2SP1-KB2528583-x64-ENU.exe) The installation is failing with the error message " The patch installer has failed to update the shared features."

Did anybody else face this issue? While goggling the error, I found there is people faced issue for installing SP2 of SQL Server 2008 Enterprise R2. Couldn't find any clue from log file or event log.

Failed to Open the explicitly specified database

Hello

I have had a look at similar posts on here for this issue but none of them have helped so I thought I'd post a new question.

I constantly see the following error for every SharePoint Database in the farm:

Login failed for user 'Contoso\NameOfSQLServer$'. Reason: Failed to open the explicitly specified database 'WSS_Content'. [CLIENT: 10.2.8.104]

Log Name: Application

Source: MSSQL$SHAREPOINT2013

Event ID: 18456

Level: Information

User: SYSTEM

Task Category: Logon

Keywords: Classic, Audit Failure

Computer: NameOfSQLServer.Contoso.com

I see this error for every SharePoint database on the SQL Server. Why is it giving the login failed error for the name of the SQL Server?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Database Engine Services disappeared after Windows 8.1 upgrade

Hi,

After updating my copy of Windows from 8 to 8.1, I noticed that I could no longer connect to my database.

The first thing I tried was to repair the installation with the SQL Server 2012 DVD but this did not work. The repair succeeded but the problem persisted.

I then decided to update to SQL 2012 SP1, which worked. And then I installed the following recommended hotfix support.microsoft.com/kb/2793634

I then relaunched the SQL 2012 SP1 installer and tried to add the Database engine services feature, but it always fails. The log file doesn't tell me much either so I was hoping someone on here could help as my hair has practically fallen out.

Here's the log and thanks in advance for your time.

I am running 64 bit upgrade advisor on a Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit machine with SQL Server 2005 64-bit.  When I get to the next screen after the sql server detection page it is supposed to return available databases but I get an error instead. "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."  Pressing OK is my only option and it quits.  I am running this as the local Administrator and I run the application as administrator as well no change.  I don't know what to make of it and there is nothing in the event logs that helps.

Error Installing Second SQL Instance

I am trying to install a second instance on my 2008 R2 server running SQL 2008 R2.  During setup, Im getting this error:

Rule "Consistency validation for SQL Server registry keys" failed.

The SQL Server registry keys from a prior installation cannot be modified.  To continue, see SQL Server Setup documentation about how to fix registry keys.

Any idea how to fix this?  I checked the logs and it stops at this point:

How to install SQL Server Express 2012 from outside of windows intaller?

Hello.

I am having a problem installing SQL Server 2012 Express on a Windows 7 64 bit machine. The problem is that the installation runs endlessly eventually having to end the task to get out of it. After researching on the internet this is a known problem. The installation gets into an endless loop. It is discussed here:  http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/741476/

At the above url discussion the Microsoft SQL Server team posted this response:

Posted by Microsoft on 8/13/2012 at 12:01 PM

Hi all, thanks for taking the time to report this issue. Installing SQL Server 2012 from within a Windows Installer transaction is not supported. Setup needs to be launched from outside of windows installer and can't be done from a custom action.

thanks,
[SQL Server Team]

I originally thought this meant just download the .exe files and run them. HoweverJonathan Dyke on 10/19/2012 at 5:16 PM (same url) also writes:

Even manually running the The SQL Server 2012 express installation by double clicking on its executable produces the same behavior.

So I have 2 questions:

1. How do I "launch setup from outside of windows installer and not from a custom action"?

2. When I brought down my endlessly looping installation program I was warned that the previous operation of setup would need to be undone before reinstalling (something like that). Do I need to do any cleanup before reinstalling? I was trying to install to C:\Program friles\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.SQLEXRESS and the later directory was not created yet.

Thank you for assisting.

Dan

Hello,  I am currently trying to install SQL Server 2012 and I'm having a problem.  When I try to install a "New SQL Server stand alone installation..." from the SQL Server Installation Center, it gives me the error:

An error occurred during the installation of assembly

'Microsoft.VC80.ATL,version=8.0.50727.6229",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchit

ecture="x86",type"win32". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT:

0x80070422.

After clicking "OK" I get this error:

Windows Installer file: C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Local\Temp\SQL Server 2012

\Setup\1033_ENU_LP\x64\setup\sqlsupport_msi\SqlSupport.msi

Windows Installer log file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup

Bootstrap\Log\20131207_210515\SqlSupport_Cpu64_1_ComponentUpdate.log

After clicking "Retry" it loads for awhile and then shuts down and I get the "Setup Stopped Working" window.  Does anyone know what the problem is?  How can I finish installing the software? Thanks

I have sql server installed in my laptop. I planned to download an update of sqlr2 since I wa not able to attach my previous database in sql server 2008 since it is a 661 version. The update didn't finish as expected hence I decided to uninstall sql server 2008 by deleting it in the control panel.

Now when I tried re-installing sql server 2008 back, I am getting following error prompt

When I click on continue option, it again comes back to the same promot

Can anyone help me how to fix this error so i can install sql server 2008 again in my laptop?
