Sql_2012sp1_x86 and VS2013

 Hi folks,
I am attempting loading SQL_2012sp1_x86 but I get through partway and the program stops when it shows all the selections available for SQL (all or advanced through checkboxes).   The issue is the program is detecting an old VS2010 instance. (it asked to upgrade the VS2010 shell)  I deleted VS2010 and all its bits so this is very frustrating.  I do have VS2013 x86  successfully loaded on this machine but the SQL_2012sp1 does not seem to recognize this fact.

How should I proceed?

Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Unable to finish the SQL 2012 installation on a VM Machine

Hi, My name is Leonard and I am studying SQL. I have downloaded the newest MS SQL 2012 and also MS 2012 Hyper-V. I have set a MS 2012 Hyper-V on a laptop with AMD Turion 64 X2 and 3G of RAM (Planing to add more to max at 8G).

Following the instructions in the free onlineAdministering Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Databases” Training Kit, I have set 6 virtual machines as instructed in the Training Kit. While the installation of the MS Server Core 2008 R2 SP1 completed with no problem, the same cannot be said for the SQL Server 2012 installation. I have encountered an error that I have not seen anyone address in any of the SQL web forums.

After running the unattended setup instruction (Setup.exe /qs /ACTION=Install /FEATURES=SQLEngine /INSTANCENAME=MSSQLSERVER /SQLSVCACCOUNT="Njowa\Pa$$worD>" /SQLSVCPASSWORD=" Pa$$worD” /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS="Njowa\lenny#4!@" /AGTSVCACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITY\Network Service" /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS) this is what I get after a series SQL setup initiation windows popups then disappears.

The following error occurred:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Error result: -2147467261

Result facility Code: 0

Result error Code: 16387

Please review the summary.txt log for further details

My question is: What instance of an object is not properly initialize in the Setup instructions

When running SQL Server 2008 Upgrade Advisor (10.0.1600.22) against a SQL 2000 instance, the following Description is displayed in the report viewer when attempting to analyze SQL batch files:

If I expand each entry in the report viewer, a one-word description is output as shown below but no details regarding the issue or the name of the object or script that contained the issue.  Here's the "Issues" section of the XML document produced by the Upgrade Advisor:

Sql Server Connection Issues

$

After reinstalling Windows Server 2008 R2 EE my SQL 2008 R2 Sp2 Instances have some connection issues.

The server were installed under the same hostname, but he got a new sid in my active directory.

On the server there one DB Engine MSSQLSERVER, two named Reporting Services for MS crm 4.0 and SCOM and one Analysis Services Instance.

The DB Engine will collect Data from another DB, before writing to Analysis Services.

Here are the problems on the server:

  • When I connect via SSMS remotly, I sometimes get this error: Failed to connect to server <hostname> ... Named Pipes Provider, error 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server - Error 5
  • Both RS Instances have many event log errors like "Report Server (Instance) cannot connect to the report server database.". RS Reports are working fine, but sometimes the rendering is taking a long time.
  • The DB Engine Agent Job to collect Data sometimes throw the following error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.  An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 10.0"  Hresult: 0x80004005  Description: "Unable to complete login process due to delay in opening server connection".  End Error  Error: 2013-12-10 06:03:40.41     Code: 0xC00291EC
  • User use Excel to connect to the Cube on my server. Often they got timeout errors. When they connect again it will work.

Are there any solutons on this?

Thanks a lot!

SQL 2012 tempdb on SAN or local RAID?

$

I have set up a SQL 2012 cluster for our future SharePoint 2013 farm, which uses tempdb pretty heavily. Right now we have two servers in the SQL cluster, each with a local drive that hold the OS and SQL install. Our storage team attached some SAN storage for all of the SQL data. Each SQL server has 16 CPU and 256 GB memory. I want to make sure we have optimal performance on this cluster though so I am thinking about trying to convince my manager to supply me with four physical drives for each server that I can use only for tempdb.

Since I do not have the drives yet, I cannot test them to see if they would actually be much faster than the SAN drive. I need to convince my manager to buy them without having actual numbers to give to him. My questions are:

  1. Would moving tempdb off the SAN drive to physical drives definitely be worth it?
  2. With four physical drives, would it be a better idea to have a single RAID 10 or two RAID 1 (data on one and logs on the other)?
  3. With these RAID setups, if tempdb is split into eight files, would there be contention on the disk that would cause performance issues?

I did run a SQLIO test on the SAN drive. Here is my output. I am not sure if the IO is acceptable as I could not actually find any numbers online of what I should be shooting for. I still need to work with my storage team on adjusting the HBA queue depth, so these numbers will hopefully improve a bit.

This is a new cluster install of 2008 R2 on W2K8 R2 boxes. I removed the passive cluster node prior to this repair though as a previous repair told me the install on that node was not successful.
I am thinking it may be as easy to start again with SQL but if someone could offer me a fix that would be great.

Thanks

SQL Server 2012 Installation Error: Could not find the Database Engine startup handle (Stuck in “Starting” State)

$

Please Help!!

I've been working on a random installation SQL Server 2012 error that I haven't been able to figure out. I work on a product that installs SQL Server 2012 "Express Edition" as part of it's installation process. This works great normally. However, on certain systems the installation fails with the following error:

> Could not find the Database Engine startup handle

When I look at the services I noticed that the SQL instance is hung in the "Starting" state. I can't even stop the service. I'm forced into exiting the installation.

This is really causing me a headache as I cannot successfully install my application.

PLEASE HELP me figure out WHY this error is happen and more importantly HOW I can detect and prevent this from happening.

I wonder if it is some sort of timing or permissions issue.

Thanks so much,

David

Hi,

a  configuration file driven setup worked on roughly 30 machines without problems.
However, on one certain machine (which is costumer owned in Saudi Arabia) the installation seems to
be blocked at an early stage. Logfiles reporting something about "SKU", but this makes not clear for me
what the problem is.

The Summary.txt is pasted, below this Details.txt is placed (the bottom part which contains the error portion).

Thanks for help in advance!

Peter

Can I install "out-of-the-box" SQL Server 2012 with Service Pack 1 Enterprise Edition or SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition on my Windows 8.1 VM?

Thanks.

SQL Server error 9954

I'm getting the following error when I try to start full-text indexing on my SQL Server 2008:
full-text service cannot be started Error: 9954
What does this mean?  When i go to SQL Config manager, it is using Local Service, but regardless of which account I use, the Start button is always greyed out.  I was able to start all the other SQL Services, however.  The reason I need to start full-text is I want to install AdventureWorks.

Here is an excerpt from my Sql error log:

2009-12-03 05:17:59.82 spid14s     Error: 9954, Severity: 16, State: 1.
2009-12-03 05:17:59.82 spid14s     SQL Server failed to communicate with filter daemon launch service  (Windows error: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
). Full-Text filter daemon process failed to start. Full-text search functionality will not be available.

SQL 2012 Standard Memory issue

Morning all,

I have a few VM's running server 2008R2 and SQL 2012 standard. Most of them are performing well however I'm having an issue with our dev server.

The VM is assign 4vCPU and 12GB ram. The SQL instance is configured with a min/max memory allocation of 2048/7168, however the VM is constantly sitting at >95% memory usage and the sqlserv.exe process is using more then the max value I set it at.

Currently its at 10.5GB

Is there something that I could of missed or somewhere that I can look to see why its using more then allocated?

THanks

Hello Community

On Windows 2008R2 Server,   I have been trying to install SQL Server 2008R2.

I think the problem stems from the  configuration part of SQL Server 2008R2 when you
enter username and password for the SQL Agent, SQL Engine, SQL Analysis, SQL Reporting Service and Integrated Service (prior to the configuratin screen, while installing I do enter  a  instance name for the database).

After SQL Server 2008R2 installs and  I go to the Start menu and select SQL Server 2008R2 it doesn’t automatically connect to any database. I click the carat and select one of the services. For example I can select “Integrated Services ” or any of the other options in the configuration, but there is no selection for the database instance name that I created.

When  Windows 2008 Server was th O/S, I could install SQL Server 2008R2 and entered
an instance name for the database and after installing SQL Server 2008R2 on Windows 2008 Server when I go to the Start menu and select SQL Server 2008R2 the named instance would
be connected to by default.

What do I have to do to make the named instance appear by default after installing SQL Server 2008R2 on a Windows 2008R2 Server O/S?

   Thank you

HI,

After installing the SQL server 2012 standard edition, when connecting to local server I get this message.

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2)

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft%20SQL%20Server&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=2&LinkId=20476

and it didn't work. And I tried repairing the SQL server and I get the below logo. I believe these components are important to the SQL server so I can't just uninstall. The link below given doesn't provide much information too.

I am currently using windows 8.1 OS.
