Moving System Databases in a Clustered Environment

$

I am familiar with moving system databases in a non-clustered environment and found this link to be very helpfulhttp://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345408.aspx, however, I can't find much on doing this on a clustered environment.  Providing a little bit of background, we have already moved all the user database files from one SAN to another and now I'm looking to do this with the system database files.  This particular SQL instance is on a two-node cluster and the SAN drive that I would like to move the system database files to is designated as a dependent resource in the cluster manager.  From this point, I'm thinking I can just move the files according to the link above similar to a non-clusted instance.

Are there any nuances or issues that I am not aware of?

Thanks!

SQL Server 2012 RC0 restore database

Hi,

I have SQL Server 2012 RC0 64-bit installed & running (on Win 2008 Server R2 64-bit virtual machine). I was trying to restore SQL Server 2008 database backup using SSMS and I don't see OK or Cancel buttons on GUI for "Restore Database". All I see is"Verify Backup Media" as shown below:

FYI, but when I scripted the restore command, it worked fine from query window. Has anybody experienced this?

Thank you all for your time & help.

SQL 2008 R2 / Applying SP2 to ONE instance?

Hi there,

We have a 2 Node SQL Cluster with 5 existing instances on it (all patched to SP2).  Earlier in the week I installed another instance onto the cluster, but failed to realise that the ISO was just the RTM version.

Am I OK to just go and re apply the Service Packs to the nodes, or they anything special I should be aware of now that the SQL instances are at different patch levels?

Cheers

SQL Server Mgt Studio 2008 installation problem - Key not valid for use in specified state

I'm setting up SQL Server Management Studio 2008 on my laptop.  It installed fine, but failed to import a regsrver file exported from another machine. This appears to have been due to the fact that I exported the file with usernames and passwords, although I must admit that's pretty darned inconvenient if it can't be done.

Nevertheless, I exported the file again without usernames and passwords, but the new install now won't let me even see servers, let alone import any new ones.

When I start Studio, it gives me the "Key not valid for use in specified state" error.  When I 'continue', I'm delivered to a screen with the 'registered servers' pane crippled.  It has no contents at all and no ability to add, select, import, export.  Nothing there.

How do I rectify this?

The installation is on Windows 7 Home Premium.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I tried to install SQL Server 2008 on a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit (Enterprise Edition Trial Edition). The system check was ok and the installation started successfully but at the end there were some errors. In the logfile there were stacktraces describing failures trying write operations on the registry. What can I do to install SQL Server 2008 on my operating system?

Installing SQL Server 2012

Hello, I recently downloaded a trial for SQL Server 2012.  First, I installed my current OS (Windows 8) on a 100GB partition on my C: drive.  Now, I want to Install SQL over that so it's the only OS on that partition.  After completing the Setup, it says everything succeeded.  It then tells me to click "OK" to finish installation.  After that my PC says to reboot.  When I rebooted it loaded Windows 8 (the old OS) with a lot of SQL programs.  Do I have to do anything else?  I want it to boot into SQL.  I've looked at other threads and can't figure it out. Does anyone know what I have to do now to get SQL as my only OS on that partition? Thanks

help with installing sql server 2012 upgrade advisor

Hello there,

I have two questions here:

1. My sql server 2005 is on Window Server 2003/SP2. Does this mean I cannot install sql server 2012 upgrade advisor on it? This page (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144256.aspx) cites that the supported OS are "Windows Vista SP1, or SP2, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2."

2. I tried to install the upgrade advisor on my local machine (windows 7, 64-bit). Even after I installed "Microsoft SQL Server Transact-SQL ScriptDom ", I still got the error message "Setup is missing prerequisites: - Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Transact-SQL ScriptDom, which is not installed by Updgrade Advisor Setup........" Why is that?

Thank you for your help in advance!

SQL Server 2012 setup problem regarding default Account Names on Server Configuration setup page

$

Trying to install SQL server 2012 standard edition w/ SP1.  Installing onto Server 2012 R2 which is installed on a Hyper-V virtual machine.  2012 R2 roles/features are:  AD DS, App Server, DNS, File & Storage Services & IIS.  The end goal is Team Foundation Server 2012, but this needs to be done first.

During the SQL setup on the Server Configuration page there is a table with 4 columns for: Services, Account Names, Passwords and Startup Type.  Everything I've read to date suggests the Account Name column will have default names already populated when this screen shows up.  But, SQL Server Analysis Services does not have a default Account Name.  I can't move past this screen unless it is filled in with a valid name.

1st question is to ask what might cause the default to not populate?  Does this indicate some other problem with my system?

2nd question is to ask how I get past this page?  What Account Name to specify?

Thanks.

Alan

SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2012 SP1 upgrade error.

I'm trying to update my MS SQL 2008 SP3 instance to MS SQL 2012 SP1.  The setup had an error in the last part of the setup.  See error below.

This error is identical to another article, but the fix of setting implicit transactions to false didn't work.  In fact, it was already set to false when I checked.

Trying to find ways to work around this issue.  So far nothing.

Please Help!!

Thanks!!

Installation setup not going to next step in Wizard after copying the installation setup files

Hello All,

I am having an issue while performing upgrade from sql 2008R2 dev edition to 2012 dev edition. I did run upgrade advisor and made sure I fixed code level issues by checking the report. Now, When I try to proceed further to upgrade, the first window on installation pops up and copies the setup files and I wait indefinitely for 2nd round of popup to proceed with installation.

To give lil background, It was working fine initially, and the setup was having issues due to unavailable space on C drive, I quit the installation and made sure the space is available and restarted the process and I see this issue.

Attempts made:

I did try to remove the 110 folders on program files and I tried a new standalone installation also and seeing same issue there too. I made sure Installation files are not corrupted and good. Below is the Log I see in error log folder in bootstrap folder

Here is the log
