SQL Server 2012 SP2 with PowerPivot, SSRS, SSAS, and SSIS ALL onto one server ?
Hello Forum,
I do need to setup SQL Server 2012 SP2 for my SharePoint farm which I will use it for some BI functionalities.
My question is: Is it OK (Performance wise) to install SQL Server 2012 SP2 along with PowerPivot, Reporting Services (SSRS), Analysis Services (SSAS), and Integration Services (SSIS) ALL of them onto one single box (One server) ?
Assuming that the server specifications are:
- Hyper-V environment.
- 4 Virtual CPUs.
- 32 GB Static Memory (RAM)
- Unlimited desk space.
Will the environment works well wit such specifications? Or, Will be excruciatingly slow?
Please, Do share your thoughts and experiences !
Also, I would appreciate any official links/references about setting up SQL with its services as one single server deployment?
I hope to hear from you soon !

SQL2014 with SP1 (x64) and MS14-044
I am installing SQL2014 (x64) Standard, also installing SP1 and would like to know if I still need to apply MS14-044
Documentation in MS14-044 says to apply to version 12.0.2000.8 and above. See linkhttps://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/MS14-044
Yet, when I see documentation for KB2977315, it only makes reference to RTM version of SQL2014. See linkhttps://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=43958
Yet, when I look at was included in SP1, I do not see MS14-044 referenced anywhere. See linkhttps://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3058865?wa=wsignin1.0
I do not want to install it if already covered by SP1.
Somewhere the documentation is not up to date or accurate.
Please help!

SQL Server 2012 Edition Upgrade - Evaluation to Enterprise Core License - Always On Not working?
Hi all,
We having 2 SQL Servers 2012 Enterprise in Evaluation. Now that we have downloaded our licensed copy of SQL Server I have downloaded the packaged from our MS Volume License Portal. I have downloaded SQL Enterprise Edition 2012 with core licenses, since this is how we are licensed. The current two servers are in Always-On mode, which is supported by Enterprise Edition.
However when I want to do the Edition Upgrade with this installation package I receive the following warning;
The AlwaysOn Availability Groups feature is enabled on this instance of SQL Server and it is not supported in the edition being changed to. Before proceeding, disable AlwaysOn Availability Groups on the server instance. For more information, see SQL Server Books Online.
I am wondering why this warning is popping up and is it really upgrading to the correct Edition? The installation package I downloaded has the following filename, which to me indicates that it is the correct ISO.
SW_DVD9_SQL_Svr_Ent_Core_2012_English_MLF_X17-99682
Anybody experience with this, or knows how to get around it?
enable user connections limit per microsoft sql database

USE AdventureWorks2012 ;
GO
EXEC sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1;
GO
RECONFIGURE ;
GO
EXEC sp_configure 'user connections', 325 ;
GO
RECONFIGURE;
GO
Advice: SQL Server Versions & Other Services ?
I do need to setup SQL Server 2014 SP1 for my SharePoint farm..
My two questions are as follows:
1) Is SQL Server 2014 SP1 really stable and reliable? Or, Shall I go with SQL Server 2012 SP2?
2) Assuming that I would want to install and configure: PowerPivot, Reporting Services (SSRS), Analysis Services (SSAS), and Integration Services (SSIS) ALL of them onto one single box (One server) along with the SQL Server itself - Do these 4 components require lots of resources (RAM & CPU)?
Thank you so much & I hope to hear from you soon !

A full backup of a database is taking an abnormally long amount of time to complete
Hello --
We are running SQL Server 2008 R2 64-bit on a Windows 2012 R2 Standard 64-bit system. Our backup plan utilizes the MaintenanceSolutions.sql scripts. The Database Backup = USER_DATABASES - FULL job involves twenty databases of sizes ranging from twenty megabytes
to over 300 gigabytes.
Two of the largest databases were recently reconfigured to utilize a separate FILESTREAM volume from the others due to space limitations of the original volume. Both were interactively backed up to a temporary folder on another volume. The databases were
then deleted, and subsequently restored with the new FILESTREAM volume configured in their options. The databases were successfully accessed by our users after the reconfiguration of each had been complete.
The larger of the two databases, which is 360 gigabytes, completes backing up in about three hours. However the other database, which is 326 gigabytes, is taking a day and a half to complete. I compared the properties of the two databases, and I did not see anything different in their configurations.
The DatabaseIntegrityCheck -USER_DATABASES and IndexOptimize - USER_DATABASES job histories did not list any problems. The backups of all the other databases are not taking nearly as long to complete.
I am going to be interactively backing up the problematic database this evening to see if the issue is within the backup job, or the database itself. Beyond that, what other steps can I take to troubleshoot and correct this issue?
Uninstalling SQL Server 2005 64-bit in Clustered Environment
I am running into an issue trying to uninstall SQL Server 2005 64-bit. It hangs at the same point: Removing backup files. I then get a message that, "The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Completing Commit. The error is: The cluster resource cannot be moved to another group because other resources are dependent on it." The instance that I am trying to uninstall is in a cluster hosting two other SQL Server installations. I have tried a few combinations when attempting to uninstall: running the cluster group containing the server I am uninstalling on a different cluster node than all the other cluster groups; running them all on the same node. The only one I haven't tried is moving the Cluster Group containing the IP address of the cluster, cluster name, etc to another node while running the other groups on the other node. Has anyone run into this issue? Each of the nodes has been rebooted several times during these attempts and we are using Windows Server 2003 Clustering. Again, the hang happens at the same point every time. The exact error(s) from the even log are as follows:
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (64-bit) -- Error 29528. The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Completing Commit. The error is: The cluster resource cannot be moved to another group because other resources are dependent on it.
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (64-bit) -- Error 29530. Failed to set registry settings for server network libraries. The action is SetShilohRoot. The error is 2 (The system cannot find the file specified.
)
Thanks,
Todd
